I then got caught up with my busy schedule and neglected it for a few weeks. Much to my surprise, the plant was as right as rain! It had grown a bit and still looked as fresh as a daisy. I couldn’t believe it – this plant is no princess, making it great for new plant parents.

Lemon Lime Dracaena Care
Light
The lemon lime dracaena plant thrives in bright, indirect sunlight, making it an excellent choice for indoor spaces. It prefers a few hours of morning or afternoon sun, but direct sunlight can scorch its leaves.
If the plant is placed in a low-light environment, it may not grow as vigorously and may develop leggy stems or pale leaves.
On the other hand, too much light can cause the leaves to turn yellow or brown at the tips or edges.
To ensure the optimal growth and health of your Lemon Lime Dracaena plant, it is recommended to place it in a location that receives bright indirect light for most of the day, such as near a north or east-facing window. You may need to adjust the plant’s lighting conditions if you notice any signs of stress, such as yellowing leaves.
Watering
This zesty-looking plant prefers to be kept consistently moist but not soggy. It’s important to avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot and other issues.
A good rule of thumb is to water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. When you do water, make sure to water thoroughly, allowing the water to drain out the bottom of the pot to avoid waterlogging the soil.
When the plant is not actively growing in the winter, you may need to reduce watering frequency. Conversely, you should increase watering during the warmer months when the plant is actively growing.

Humidity

Regarding temperatures, the Lemon Lime Dracaena plant thrives in warm temperatures and prefers an average temperature range of 60 to 75 F (15-24 C). It is essential to avoid exposing the plant to extreme temperature fluctuations or cold drafts, as this can cause damage to the leaves and slow their growth.
During the winter months, when the temperatures may drop below the plant’s preferred range, it’s crucial to protect the plant from cold drafts and keep it in a warm location. Similarly, during the summer, when temperatures can rise above the plant’s preferred range, keeping the plant in a cool, and well-ventilated space is essential.
If the plant is exposed to temperatures outside of its preferred range for an extended period, it may show signs of stress, such as leaf drop or browning. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a constant temperature range and avoid sudden changes.
Soil
When potting the Lemon Lime Dracaena, use a well-draining soil rich in organic matter. A good potting mix for this plant contains a combination of peat moss, perlite, and sand, which will provide adequate drainage and aeration while retaining moisture.
It’s important to avoid using heavy or compact soils, as these can lead to waterlogging and root rot. Similar uses of soils that do not drain well or retain too much moisture can also lead to issues such as fungus or mold growth.
When repotting the Lemon Lime Dracaena plant, it is recommended to choose a pot that is slightly larger in size than the plant’s current container and has drainage holes at the bottom. This will allow excess water to drain out of the pot and prevent water logging.
Fertilizer

Lemon Lime Dracaena Propagation
The Lemon Lime Draceana plant can be propagated through stem cuttings or by air layering.
Stem Cutting
To propagate through stem cutting, select a healthy stem that is at least 4–6 inches long and has a few leaves.
Make a clean cut just below a node using a sharp, sterilized knife or pair of scissors.
Remove the bottom leaves from the stem and dip the cut end in rooting hormone powder to encourage root growth.
Plant the cutting in a well-draining potting mix, water it thoroughly, and place it in a warm and bright location. Covering the pot with a plastic bag or clear plastic wrap can help to increase humidity and encourage rooting. The cutting should root in about 4–6 weeks.
Air Layering
To propagate through air layering, select a healthy stem and make a small cut just below a node.
Wrap moist sphagnum moss around the cut area and cover it with plastic wrap, securing the ends with tape. Keep the moss moist and check for root growth regularly.
Once the roots have formed, cut the stem below the moss and plant the new plant in a well-draining potting mix.
Potting the Lemon Lime Dracaena plant through stem cuttings or air layering is a relatively straightforward process that can help to expand your plant collection and create new healthy plants from healthy parents.
My preferred method of propagation is stem cuttings. This is purely due to aesthetics- I’m not a fan of the look of a bag of moss hanging off my plants!

You can control mealybugs by wiping the leaves with a damp cloth or cotton swab dipped in running alcohol or using insecticidal soap.
Leaf Tips Turning Brown
This can be caused by overfertilization, low humidity, or underwatering. Adjusting your watering schedule, increasing humidity, and reducing fertilization can help alleviate this problem.
Yellowing or Dropping Leaves
This is a common sign of underwatering, overwatering, or exposure to cold temperatures. Adjust your watering schedule and ensure the plant is not exposed to extreme temperatures.
Root Rot
This occurs when the plant is kept in a pot with poor drainage or is overwatered. To prevent root rot, ensure that the plant is planted in a well-draining potting mix and allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
