Aquaponics
Aquaponics is a sustainable method of food production that combines aquaculture (the farming of aquatic organisms) and hydroponics (the cultivation of plants in water). It is a closed-loop system that creates a mutually beneficial relationship between fish and plants.
In an aquaponic system, fish are kept in a tank where they produce waste. This waste is then converted into nutrients by beneficial bacteria and pumped to the hydroponic system. The plants absorb the nutrients, purifying the water for the fish. The clean water is then returned to the fish tank, completing the cycle.
